Siyang Xu introduces an innovative deicing robot designed to remove ice from power cables after natural disasters, ensuring uninterrupted power supply in cold areas.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Siyang Xu has unveiled an intelligent robot designed to remove ice from power cables after natural disasters, ensuring uninterrupted power supply in cold areas. The Acoustic Cable Deicing Robot is a conceptual design that addresses the challenges faced by workers in extremely cold areas where power transmission is often disrupted due to snowstorms freezing the cables.
This intelligent device features a cylindrical heating ring that gradually heats up the cable's outer layer, preventing secondary freezing. It also fills the outer layer with frozen maintenance material to ensure the cable remains ice-free. The robot is made of high manganese steel, fused with composite metal chromium for durability and rust resistance. The equipment is 310mm long, 150mm wide, and 150mm high, with an adjustable inner cylinder diameter of 15-45mm to accommodate different cable sizes.
The deicing robot can be operated manually using a symmetrical closed switch or through a dedicated mobile app. It also features a manual interface for presetting work and flashing orange lights to prevent interference during operation. The design project, which began in March 2019 and concluded in November 2020 in the United States, involved extensive research and collaboration with team member Zhouping Wei to address the challenges of production recovery under natural disasters.
Siyang Xu, an industrial designer from Hefei, China, has been recognized for this innovative design, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022. The Acoustic Cable Deicing Robot represents a significant step towards improving urban recovery after snowstorms and ensuring uninterrupted power supply in cold areas.
