Yoga House: Sustainable Building with Earthship Principles

Yoga House, a sustainable earthship retreat designed by Cuneyt Dari, stands as a remarkable example of environmentally conscious architecture. This 224 m2 passive solar earth shelter is located in Vale de Moses, Portugal, and embodies the principles of the Earthship concept, utilizing natural and upcycled materials to create a self-sufficient and off-the-grid living space. The retreat's unique design features thermal mass construction, natural cross ventilation, and a focus on landscape integration to provide a comfortable and sustainable living environment.

The Earthship-inspired structure of Yoga House is designed to minimize reliance on public utilities and fossil fuels, utilizing wind and solar energy for electricity, rainwater harvesting for clean water, and an in-home organic garden for food production. The building's orientation on the terrain is carefully planned to preserve existing trees, creating a harmonious coexistence with nature.

Yoga House's realization technology involves minimal earthwork for the foundation, prefabricated universal wooden trusses for load-bearing structures, and a commitment to garbage management, reuse, and recycling as integral parts of the construction and daily living. The retreat's emphasis on sustainability extends to its eco-friendly technology, including long-stemmed wheat straw materials and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
