Embrasse Moi: A Majestic Burnished Brass Light Sculpture Illuminates Milan

Giuseppe Tortato's Embrasse Moi lamp has been honored with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award 2025 in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category, recognizing its exceptional artistry and technical achievement. Conceived and crafted in Milan between January and September 2022, Embrasse Moi is a monumental suspension lamp that blurs the boundaries between sculpture and functional lighting. The piece is prominently displayed in the reception and stairwell of a historic building at Via Negri 4, where its sinuous form and luminous presence redefine the architectural space.

Inspired by the elegant spirals of DNA, Embrasse Moi was designed using advanced parametric software and meticulously handcrafted from burnished brass. The lamp's name is a playful nod to both the English word "brass" and its enveloping, embrace-like shape. Weighing 300 kg, the lamp's continuous ribbon-like structure ascends vertically across multiple floors, its intricate weave acting as a visual thread that unifies the building's interior. The design's relative lightness, achieved through careful material selection and engineering, allows for a discreet suspension system using thin steel cables, ensuring minimal visual impact while maintaining safety and stability.

The creation of Embrasse Moi posed significant technical challenges, particularly in balancing the lamp's considerable weight with the need for structural integrity and aesthetic fluidity. The lamp was constructed in sections, with reinforced joints and steel tensioners strategically placed to support its form. Each segment was handcrafted to ensure seamless integration, resulting in a unique piece that offers both dramatic visual impact and a warm, inviting glow. Embrasse Moi stands as a testament to the power of craftsmanship and innovation, offering an artistic accent that transforms any environment and exemplifies the highest standards of contemporary design.
