FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Peri chair, designed by Luan Del Savio, stands as a testament to the enduring influence of indigenous wisdom and environmental stewardship in contemporary furniture design. Drawing inspiration from the Tupi Guarani concept of "Peri"-the guardian of forests and rivers-the chair embodies a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Every aspect of its design, from material selection to form, pays tribute to ancestral values and the spiritual connection with the environment.
Constructed with a solid wood base and a seat and backrest woven from sisal, the Peri chair merges traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. CNC machines sculpt the organic contours of the wood, while skilled artisans hand-finish each piece, ensuring individuality and authenticity. Sisal, a biodegradable and durable natural fiber, is sourced sustainably, reinforcing the chair's ecological commitment. This thoughtful integration of indigenous techniques and modern production methods results in a product that is both functional and environmentally responsible.
Throughout a ten-month development process in Maravilha and Santa Helena, the Peri chair underwent extensive prototyping to perfect its ergonomic comfort and aesthetic appeal. The project's research phase included ethnographic studies of Tupi Guarani culture and artisanal methods, overcoming challenges such as the adaptation of traditional techniques to contemporary manufacturing. The result is a chair that not only offers intuitive comfort and easy maintenance but also serves as a cultural artifact-honoring Brazil's heritage while advancing sustainable design. Its recognition with the Silver A' Furniture Design Award 2025 celebrates its outstanding innovation, technical excellence, and emotional resonance.
